Most State Prisoners In For Violent Crimes

U.S. state and federal prisons held an estimated 1,561,500 inmates on December 31, 2014, a decrease of 15,400 prisoners (one percent) since yearend 2013, the Justice Department’s Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) announced.
